Alloy Steel Dowel Pin Kit
Large Metal Case Measurements:
18" Wide X 12" Deep X 3" Height A solid headless straight pin with a closely controlled diameter. One end is chamfered with the other end radiused to form a crown.
Wide variety of uses, including as a plug gage, hinge or shaft. Precise tolerances of dowel pins make them excellent for achieving proper alignment of parts in high-speed assemblies, or as roller bearing in bus/truck wheel housing.
Important Note: Dowel pins should be installed by being pressed in, not struct with an impact force.
Pins shall be made from any alloy steel capable of achieving the proper hardness requirements listed herein, having sulfar content of 0.05% maximum, and phosphorus content of 0.04% maximum.
Pins shall be hardened by quenching in oil from austenitizing temperature and tempering to meet the proper Rockwell hardness and case depth.
Core Hardness: Rockwell C47-58
Case Hardness: Rockwell C60 minimum
Case Depth: 1/8 diameter: 0.010 in. minium.
3/16 diameter and larger: 0.015 in. minimum.
Shear Strength: Hardened ground machine dowel pins shall have a single
shear strength of 130,000 psi minimum. They shall be capable
of withstanding the double shear loads specified.
Ductility: Hardened ground machine dowel pins shall have sufficient ductility to withstand being pressed into holes 0.0005 in. smaller than the nominal pin diameter in hardened steel without cracking or shattering.
